Rebuilding My Portfolio and Making New Work
I rebuilt this site from scratch, moving it off Wix and onto a lightweight, hand-tuned site I direct and refine with Claude Code as a design and development partner, with the code versioned and hosted on GitHub Pages. The old site got bogged down loading every video on a page at once. The new one shows a lightweight preview and only loads a video when you're ready to watch it, so it's much snappier. It's been a hands-on way to put my AI skills to work. I act as the creative director, setting the vision and making the design calls, while Claude Code handles much of the building, testing, and iterating.
Along the way I've brought more of my work onto the site, including a 3D logo animation for a Celtics hype intro and a new Apparel and Merch Design section that shows my shirt designs on everything from stickers to pins.
Designing and Building a Workout App
I've also been designing and building Design to Motion (D2M for short), a workout app whose name is a play on motion design. It acts as your guide, walking you through each workout so you never have to stop and remember what comes next. Much of the work has gone into the UX, keeping every screen simple and quick to use mid-workout.
I've also given it a cohesive look and feel, with a color system where every color has a job: blue for lifting and actions, raspberry for cardio, and green for progress. Under the hood it's built around alternating Day A and Day B workouts, with exercise levels that fill up as you progress, a week planner for booking sessions, and cardio timers.
Coaching Basketball and Keeping Up with My Son
This season I'm coaching my son's basketball team, which is a new and fun challenge. A real highlight so far: as part of the new Jr. Celtics Towns partnership, I was invited to a coaches clinic at the Auerbach Center in Brighton, MA (where the Celtics practice). Getting instruction from pro coaches on those same courts was very cool. Outside of basketball, my son keeps busy with club soccer, which is intense at three to five days a week. He also has Spanish and swimming lessons. On drums, he keeps picking up new beats and songs quickly, and he loves reading the music, which definitely wasn't me at his age. He's started dabbling in piano too, with a few lessons so far.
We're also getting ready for another ski season with the family. After a few years of lessons drawing on my time as an instructor, my son has become a well-rounded skier who enjoys groomers and glades and is now learning to carve.
